🎶 SWISH! I’m blogging … I’m so awesome. 🎶
I am the one, the only, the one and only … Emery Rudolph Jr. a.k.a. “The Real MVB (Most Valuable Blogger).” As the creator of The Writing’s on the Ball, I welcome you to my domain and genuinely hope that you enjoy digesting the contents of this blog even more than I do cooking them up. With that said, allow me to quickly dive into the fundamentals of my existence.
The Real MVB is Laker-gang-affiliated. I was initiated into this championship-driven fan base prior to the 2003-04 season. At that time I was considered to be a “bandwagon fan,” which by definition, I can’t deny that I was. After all, they had just completed a three-peat in addition to acquiring Hall of Fame players Gary Payton and Karl Malone.
However, after enduring the past five seasons, that asterisk has been permanently removed from beside my name. The same goes for anyone who has wholeheartedly supported the Lakers since 2012-13. The key to jumping onto a speeding bandwagon or “fanwagon” is to never jump back off. That’s how you earn your stripes so to speak. You’ve got to roll through the mud with your squad every now and again.
Aside from my Laker Gang affiliation and Laker-induced depression, I graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications from Bowie State University where I was an active staff writer for The Spectrum. Eventually, my passion for athletics catapulted me into the sports editor position that I enjoyed for two-and-a-half years.
Since my collegiate days, I’ve also contributed to a variety of organizations and covered a plethora of topics ranging from health (NIH) to politics (CPHA Baltimore). But you know they say that home is where the heart is. And there is no doubt in my mind that my heart resides in that 29.5″ genuine leather ball named Spalding.
A very distant second to basketball is music. And when I say “very distant,” it’s more of a testament to how much I truly love hoops rather than a lack of influence that tunes have on my life. I know that when I can’t get onto a court or watch an NBA game to relax, music brings me back to the middle.
Some of my favorite genres are R&B, hip-hop, and electronica, but there’s some funk, rock and reggae sprinkled throughout my library too. Kendrick Lamar, NAO, Daniel Caesar, Miguel and Sabrina Claudio make up the starting five for my most revered modern music artists. The Weeknd is my sixth man and Wale subs in right afterwards. However, with so many dope artists out there on the rise, this list is subject to change.
As far as old or older school music, I’m a huge fan of Stevie Wonder, 2Pac, Erykah Badu and many more. There’s absolutely, positively no present without the pioneers. And that goes for anything.
Anyways, I think that I’ve digitally rambled on enough about myself. If there is anything else that you feel you would like to know, just hit me up! I’m an open book without a single page missing.
